Delvaux has been making leather goods in Brussels since 1829 — a year older than Belgium itself, eight years older than Hermès, and the oldest fine leather luxury house in the world. It filed the first patents for handbags in 1908, which is about as close as anyone comes to inventing the object. It has supplied the Belgian royal court since 1883.
In the 1930s it did something less grand but more useful: it began producing seasonal collections. Which is why this one can be placed exactly — Autumn 2009, made in Belgium.
The softness is the tell. No rigid structure, no hardware announcing itself, a strap that falls where it likes. This isn't a bag built for a boardroom. It's for the market, the long lunch, the afternoon with nowhere in particular to be. Luxury with its shoes off.
Authentic Delvaux shoulder bag in rich brown calfskin, from the house's Autumn 2009 collection — confirmed by a Brussels-based Delvaux specialist. This piece has lovely vintage details: a wonderful patina, hand-finished edges, a single rolled shoulder handle, and a softly structured trapezoid body that slouches beautifully with wear.

Markings: DELVAUX crown heat stamp on the exterior hangtag; DELVAUX BRUXELLES / MODÈLE DÉPOSÉ stamped inside. Delvaux did not use serial numbers in this era.

Condition Notes — Good. Vintage wear, photographed in detail. The leather has developed a genuinely lovely patina with deepened tone and natural sheen across the body. Flaws disclosed: interior lining shows staining and pen marks throughout (photographed); small surface marks on the base, visible but not felt — no leather loss; general handling wear consistent with age as shown (minor scratches, etc.). Exterior is structurally sound with no cracking, peeling, or repairs. Color is true to the first photograph. Staining on dust bag.
